Soccer Positions

The first position is striker or forward. This position is tasked with mainly scorring goals and using their footwork to get around defenders. The strikers must be quick in order to race the opponent to the ball when it is passed to them. If a forward is able to make the ball pass the opponents goal line they score a point for their team.

The second position is midfield. Midfield is the position that is the most versitile and has to do the most running. Therefore they must have a lot of stamina. These players help the strikers create chances and help defenders protect the goal. The average midfielder runs about 7 miles a game.

The third position is defender. The main role of these players is to protect the goal at all costs even putting their own bodies on the line. They are normally more toned and stronger, along with being agile to compete with the quick strikers. There are also subsects of defenders which mainly tell you where you will be playing; leftback, centerback, etc.

The final position is goalkeeper. This is arguably the most importaint position on the team. They must be able and willing to dive onto the ball with many players running at them and be able to punch the ball away if need be. Their main goal is to not let the opposing team to put the ball in their net.
